Music Therapy

Because we need another Early Intervention service like I need a hole in my head, we decided to give "Music Therapy" a go.

Today's session started out a little shaky because Dylan was due for a nap (why does that always happen when EI is here?!) but eventually he got a second wind and began enjoying himself.

I found that music therapy actually incorporates most of the goals that we are working on with Dylan, plus it comes with some pretty cool tunes!

I also really liked it because Cassidy was able to get involved with the session as well.

A little "Itsy Bitsy Spider" action.

Shake shake. Cause and effect...

Supported sitting...

Just look at this sweet boy's face. You know...I think we are going to continue with it. We are working on goals. Having fun. Dylan and Cassidy enjoyed themselves. It's worth it.
Now...make sure and remind me of why I wanted all of these services when the summer rolls around. And it's 90 degrees outside. And we have to leave the swim club early because of our music therapy class.

Wow, that's awesome! I hate it when naptime is looming during PT. Thankfully, we were able to get a fixed PT session each week at 8:30 a.m., so we're good. But I have to make Andrew go upstairs and play b/c he always wants to dominate the session and play with all the toys. Sigh....three-year-olds. LOL

That looked like fun!
It is so good that Cass can join, b/c I am sure she feels left out when they are just focusing on Dylan.
Did you bust out some tunes too? :)

(and its like, 40 degrees here)

I love your little Dylan. He really is so cute in those photos! So cool that Cass can join in! Our music therapist gets totally pissed when my boys try to get involved. It stresses me out and I feel so bad for the boys who just want to be involved with their brother. So your therapist is totally cool about it?

Do they come to your home? I would love to get Sam involved in Music Therapy. I'll have to ask our PT and nurse when they come tomorrow.

Thanks for the comments : )

Not sure if you ladies will see this, but if so:
Tausha, the therapist does come right to my house. How cool is that?!
Jennifer, that totally bums me out about your music therapist. I would stress as well. I *think* she's ok with Cass joining in. Honestly, I didn't even think to ask, but I just kind of gave Cass some instruments when Dylan had some. Sheesh. If Cass isnt allowed to participate, we'll probably stop bc I really dont want another person coming in strictly for Dylan...
And Kim, yes of course I busted out some tunes. Duh.

Looks like fun. We are on the waiting list for music therapy with EI, can't wait! How nice that they came right out to your house and included Cass.

That looked like a good time! I always thought music therapy would be cool. Goldie is 2 and goes to Kindermusik now. I'm always amazed at how much PT is a part of moving to music.

I am going to have to look into this as well...I'm not even sure if we have this...but you better believe I will be asking! How fun!

that is awesome! it is like your own private music class... so glad Cassidy can join in - we still seem to be at a point with speech, occupational and physical therapies where anne is more of a hassle than a help - i feel bad for her because i think she feels left out sometimes. i will have to look into music therapy here - although we do the music playhouse on fridays already, so maybe that counts :) FUN FUN!!! (although, i hear you on your anticipation for the summer - maybe you could do every other week during the summer months???)

I think music therapy is awesome. Music seems to be one of the rare things that can stop Jonathan in his tracks. I hope it does as many wonders for you as it does for us.

Aww, I really miss Music Therapy. It was one of Maren's favorite times of the week. Now, we have Rock Band oh...and Rock Band II. Geez, what I'd give for MT, Kindermusik, and the fun of group music time again :-).

We love music therapy. Charlie really started to reach some big milestones and gain some much needed strength after we started a weekly music therapy session. Big brother Henry loved it too! Happy to hear that both Dylan and Cassidy enjoyed the music play time.

Hello Friend!! Well it is report card time...I bet you don't miss this time of year!! Music Therapy looks great! Aaron's daycare has a music program every Monday and he LOVES it. April vacation is coming up...want to get together???

sounds like fun ! I am so jealous you get to stay at home- our therapist goes to daycare so we dont get to watch and it limits the amount of therapy I will allow- since I dont want to bother daycare too much ! Looks like both kids had fun !

That looks like so much fun. I'm not sure if that's even an option for in-home service here in Illinois. I'm gong to check into it. I know there are some facilities that I could probably take Lily to, but another drive...yuck. Maybe I could get some of the same stuff and try ito on my own?????? I might be sending you a note some day for a list of what Dylan gets to play with.

It would be so awesome to get all our kiddos together for music therapy jam session! :0)
