Little Set Back

Well...our Miracle Boy had a few set backs today.

During Dylan's heart surgery on Tuesday, a stomach catheter was inserted because he had so much fluid build up. When that catheter was removed this morning, there was a complication and Dylan had an Omentum Hernia. An Omentum Hernia is basically a protrusion of abdominal fat through an opening in the muscle wall of the abdomen.

Dylan was taken to surgery this afternoon to have this repaired. Ugh. Sitting back in that pre-op room was not at all what I wanted to be doing. Poor little Dylan...being poked and prodded all over again.

He did well with the procedure and is now recovering...again. He was put on a ventilator during the surgery, but has since come off of it. He is still on narcotics and is pretty well sedated. When we left the hospital this evening, he was doing well. Sleepy and not too thrilled with his mom and dad, but otherwise ok.

On the bright side, it was not an entire day of set backs, though. One of his chest tubes was taken out as well as his Foley Catheter. His A-line was removed and he can move his arms about freely. Yeah! Hopefully tomorrow the rest of his chest tubes will be removed. Then, I will be able to hold him. Finally.

I am writing this blog entry in an email to my sister Kim. Our computer is on the fritz and Dave's laptop is the slowest thing on earth. Not to mention, it won't let me in my own blog. Sigh.

Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers. I know that Dylan can feel them.

Well I knew I would be the first to comment :)
Any way, I know this set back was discouraging, but he is still making great progress! He is our little hero and will be home soon.
Stay strong, as I know you have been.
I love you.

Ugh. Ugh, ugh, ugh. Just when you think things are going your way...

But it sounds like Dylan came through like a champ. And you have holding him to look forward to!

Evan had to have a 2nd surgery too, on his throat due to ventilator damage. It happened the day we were told we were going to get to leave. I remember being so, so discouraged, and thinking about all of those kids who had the same surgery as him, and how they'd get out in 3 or 5 days or something. And I felt so resentful because our situation wasn't going so smoothly.

Even though I hate this saying, "hang in there". It really is appropriate in situations like these. Dylan's doing great, and so are you. Hope you get home very soon.

Ohhhhh . . . I'm so sorry to hear about this setback. It does sound like he's doing amazingly well, though, all things considered. What a little fighter. And you sound like you're holding up really well Laurie. I hope so much that this entire ordeal is behind you guys very very soon. (((hugs hugs hugs)))

Oh gosh Laurie that really stinks. Dylan is a tough cookie though and I know he'll do great. I'll not only be praying for his healing but also that you would be able to hold him tomorrow. That was such a big thing for me when I finally got to hold Lily again. It was awkward, but I didn't care. We both needed to snuggle so badly!!!

Thank you for the update. I've been thinking of you and your family so much during the past week. I'm sooooooooo looking forward to the "we're at home" post! God's blessings!!!!

Dylan, you are such a brave little warrior, I have tremendous respect and admiration for you. Stay strong Dylan, you know you can overcome this challenge, I know it too, I can “feel” it. Keeping your sweet smile in my mind's eye, my heart and my spirit are with you. Sending you love, strength and healing energy all the time.
Many Blessings ~

Thank you so much for the update. Laurie, you are doing an amazing job, stay strong and positive.
My niece had to have a second surgery too, It took them 4 hours to do some repair in the area of her lungs. The doctors did what needed to be done, they corrected what needed to be fixed. Today, we are so grateful to all the medical team and the procedures she had to go through, she is healthier and stronger because of them. Remember, Dylan continues to lead the way, he “knows” what he is doing and he is making great progress!!!. Keep in mind at all times that your love for Dylan sustains and gives him strength. LOVE is the best medicine and the most powerful HEALING FORCE there is.

Sending positive thoughts, prayers filled with strength, loving and healing energy for a ~ healthy recovery ~ every day. :)

Love and peace.

What a tough boy to be ditching tubes even though he had to go in for surgery... again. I'm sorry to hear about that, I'm happy they were able to take care of it quick though. I SOOO hope you hopefully get to HOLD HIM tomorrow!! That would be so good, I'm sure he would love to hold his mom, too. You guys are in our thoughts.
